New Year Blog

Hello everyone, hope you all had a good holiday time and new year!

I will straight away crack on with the last few tips with the weight loss. Since christmas day I have lost a couple more pounds. Now sometimes under 61kg in the morning weigh in.

  • Try to not eat too late.

Like I have said before some things may work for some people and not for others. I have found eating my evening meal as early as possible, I target 7pm but sometimes it can be a little earlier or slightly later. The wise people tell me if you stuff yourself up very late your meal is more likely to be turned into fats, there is science here but its well beyond my brain to understand it or explain it.

  • Keep your bigger meal of the day in the middle of the day.

So similar to above, if you can eat a larger meal in the middle of the day I find I am less likely to want to eat huge in the evening and then eat more snacks after said evening meal. Some some people try to eat very little all day, but all this seems to do is mare then super hungry in the evening then they guzzle a massive load of food and sleep on it. So if you can keep to this rule a bit you will hopefully find number (6) easier...

  • Protein in the evening.

Again we are on the protein, if you are keen for a late evening snack and feel you have to have something try to keep it protein and very little carbs and/or low GI. This theory will leave you with less likely to turn this little snack into fats. I have sometimes had an apple chopped up with a couple of spoons of low fat greek yogurt. A little salad with tuna, also nice.

I think that will be enough for now, hopefully one or more of you will find this useful!

In other news, since Christmas day I have managed to get a few hours in on the rollers. So knee rehab seems to be making more progress. We had the MRI scan last week and now waiting for the results to be written up.

I am finding the rollers really a good way to train and would certainly advise the in this cold miserable weather. They are more of a mental work out than the turbo trainer as you fall off if you do switch off. Athlete Service have again been great and allowed me to get some time in on their Spin Scan turbo trainer. This shows how efficient your pedalling technique is, or in my case how awful it is. It is rather depressing how far from efficient I am but also give me something to really work on in each session.

Thanks for reading and I hope you are all training hard. Haute Route is 8 months away....!
